Hang up and Drive

Report Cell phone use more dangerous than driving drunk. Now can we get some legislation going? People have long countered that talking to someone in the car is not dangerous, what’s the difference? My best explanation (from my own experience) is that there is something about the location of the conversation. When you talk to someone in the car, you are both in the car. The focus of the attention is in that space. When you talk on a cell phone, the location of the conversation is elsewhere (think of it as the median point between the two of you). You are not there. You are elsewhere. It’s hard to explain but I grok what I mean and it feels right and I am right. So there. (Link found via Paul Boutin’s Weblog)
