This article in the Washington Monthly has been out for a while but this is the first time I’ve read it. It rings quite true and is quite unsettling, as so much is these days.
Alas, what can be done? The Democrats certainly don’t seem able to do much (or aren’t really trying). Maybe they sense that the American people are generally in favor of the results of this plan and that they believe that the ends justify the means. It’s hard to run on a “Sure, this is a good idea but we’re doing it the wrong way” platform. What they need is a “I have a much better idea” platform which the American people will accept. And I can’t even begin to imagine what that might be.
