I feel a whole lot better about this year’s election if that State of the Union was the President’s opening salvo in his campaign. Rehash of past half-truths and some lame attempts at proposing new programs. Too bad the Democratic response was so wooden and flat. I mean, could that woman have creepier looking eyes? Or could Daschle smile any more often in that kindly way of his? The best rebuttal of the entire evening were the utterly fantastic shots of Ted Kennedy rolling his eyes, shaking his head, or looking heavenward.
I also loved Newt Gingrich on NBC doing the “toe the party line” thing. It was so obvious that he was doing the right thing. You know he wanted to agree with McCain about the Republicans spending like drunken sailors.
I wonder if the Democrats feel slighted that Kerry got on air doing his bit before they got to do the official rebuttal…
