Heat and Dust is a fascinating interview of Phillip Pullman (note: it has spoilers for “His Dark Materials”). He expresses better what atheism and agnosticism is than I ever have been able to explain. He really nails it, in my opinion.
Now I’m going to have to go back and re-read the series.
The Guardian on Pullman, Philip
Pullman is the author of the “His Dark Materials” series consisting of “The Golden Compass” (“Northern Lights” in England), “The Subtle Knife,” and “The Amber Spyglass.” They are billed as children’s literature but the themes are sweeping and ambitious and quite satisfying for adult readers as well. I recommend them quite highly.
