Web as Community

Chris Nolan – Reporting * Writing * Talking: Playing Catch-Up

Chris Nolan has a nice piece on the web as a community tool and how often people don’t really get this stuff. I created a mailing list nearly 9 years ago which grew (within minutes!) to an online community. Just last month I attended the wedding of two people who met via this list. Online communities are real and I believe that they will be a political force. I think this next election will be very interesting because of this.

Leaning towards Dean

I’ve been partly on the fence and partly playing the wait-and-see game. But this entry on the Dean blog, When Democrats Attack Democrats, just disgusts me.

We don’t know which democrats are behind this ad but it is despicable and they should be ashamed of themselves. If it turns out that Kerry and Gephardt are behind it or if, at the very least, they do not come out and denounce the ad, they have both completely lost any chance for my support.

The Republicans have enough going for them in this election without the Democrats engaging in the kind of insanity which will just hurt their own cause. Democrats have always been lousy at getting together and working collectively. But they should not take the additional step towards self-destruction.
